Post subject:  Need help with older 2002 mirage drive parts

Hi all -
I have a 2002 Outback, which I'm guessing is a pre-V1 pedal drive. One of the chain drive cables broke and it seems there is no longer a replacement part that will fit this drive, so correct me if I'm wrong. Can anyone answer the following -
Will the V1 to V2 upgrade kit work on this older drive? I heard it would not.
Would a V1 chain drive part fit on it? Or is the length different?
If I need to find a pre-V1 chain drive, anyone know where, or any dealers who may have salvaged parts from these older drives?
Or any tricks to repair my broken one?

Thanks.

If you have a V1 ... the upgrade should work.

Hi Matt -
Thanks for the reply but not sure if I have a V1 drive. I know I have a 2002 model -- is this a V1?

That is very V1. Aluminum drums and stainless sprockets right?

Ok - the sprockets are stainless steel but the drums look like some kind of injection molded plastic, not aluminum.

If this helps I have two identical drives, serial # on one is 20146 and the other is 197__, the last two numbers are scratched off this one, the broken one.

Maybe I can send you some photos if that would help?

Thanks

If you do have plastic drums... the update kit will work for sure.

I have 2 older mirage drives that broke within 15 minutes of each other. One of the drives was a 2008 with new black hubs only. The other drive was a 2003 with the old hubs. On these hubs the pedal arm was attached with both a bolt and a nut. On my recently received V1 to V2 upgrade kit the new hubs are grey with roller bearings. However, the above bolt goes thru the outside part of the hub (and the pedal arm) but does not go thru and the inside part of the hub which is not threaded. Should I (1) force the existing bolt to thread, (2) tap threads, or (3) order new bolts to complete this upgrade.
