does anyone know the AWG wire size of the fish finder connector and battery ?

14 or 16?

It's no larger than AWG-16 and maybe AWG-18.
The voltage drop is very small since most fish finders draw less than 1.25 A DC.
My Humminbird 768 draws 650 ma.

There is a guy on ebay that is making them from 14 AWG from what he told me. I was gonna try and make one but might just buy his.

IMHO, AWG-14 is overkill, but that's your call.

Hobie uses 20 awg wire for out pigtail extension wire w/ waterproof plug that's included in fish finder install kits. Of course you could go slightly larger gauge if you wanted, but not necessary. Be sure to use the fuse provided with your finder if it comes with one.
