Replacement hulls, the warranty only runs from sale of first hull it replaced I believe.

Warranties are transferable if on sold, serial numbers are registered with hobie so paperwork is not essential for a second owner to claim.

If an owner sells a replacement hull without mentioning it is a replacement, along with date of original hull. After all a replacement hull is likely later and more valuable. Then 2nd owner may check hull number and see it as say only a year old so make assumption its got another years warranty on it. However this hull may actually have little or no warranty left as it may be close to, or past 2 years since purchase of the hull it replaced.

Is this correct? If so it is a heads up to secondhand buyers to not only check date of hull but also purchase receipt and clarify whether serial numbers match up. Is there a way for a potential buyer to check with Hobie as to warranty left on the actual hull they are looking at?

Yes, only the original purchase date starts the warranty clock. There is no added warranty when a hull is replaced... we warranty that the original purchase will be defect free for 2 years or we will fix or replace.

Only a small percentage of buyers register the warranty, so that is not going to be effective. They can email [email protected] and ask for details on a specific serial number.
