Post subject:  Hobie Track Problem

I have a 2019 Outback, my teenage daughter just purchased a Passport. None of the Yak Attack or Railblaza track accessories will fit on her Passport, on either side. They all fit all of the tracks on my Outback. The center section of her tracks are too narrow and nothing will fit in. It's not even really close. I'm assuming it must have been some poor quality control and some parts made it out that weren't within spec. It renders her kayak pretty much worthless for the type of fishing she wants to do right now as nothing can be mounted in the tracks.

I'm going to contact the dealer and see if they can get us some new tracks.

I have similar problem, but i find a solution. The RailBlaza TrackMount Kit doesn't fit, but the YakAttack 1/4-20 Track Nut fits perfect. Also the Ram balls are OK for these rails.

Engineering is reviewing. Likely we will have replacement tracks available at some point that do have a wider slot as they were designed... Something changed in production.

In the meantime... I hear you can get them into the track with some effort. How about a small amount of filing to open the width slightly?

Toilet flange bolts work. They are 1/4"x20 and brass. The nice thing is that if you need to you can file them down a little to get them to fit. My only complaint is that the plastic knobs I buy are not stainless and rust. I just replace them every once in a while but overall it is a good solution for all my homemade attachments.

Just wanted to check in to see if Hobie had any update on possible replacement rails?

No update from engineering. This will not be a short term... Supply orders are long lead times... once a solution is found. Then tooling may need to be adjusted. Then parts run. Filing or using a bit of force to get the accessories in the track would be the solution at this time.

Thank you for the quick update Matt. Will look at mods and Macgyver solutions in the interim. Sometimes those are fun, dry land things to do.

Silicone spray makes insertion on all of the tracks a lot easier. Most likely not an issue on this kayak now, but I still sometimes struggle with the limited bolt depth with some track mounts and silicone spray makes the job a load easier.
