This cord has loosened up some over the years and no longer retains the paddle properly. I need to remove one of the round black retainers (not sure what the proper name for it is), so I can tighten the cord a little.

Tried unscrewing with no joy, but didn't want to put too much force on incase that's not how it comes out I don't want to break it. Anyone know how to get these out?

Thanks for all that plfinch, with the knowledge it unscrews I tried my fishing pliers and found they fit the little unscrewing slots perfectly, so it was a simple job to put them in, turn, and it unscrewed. Then as per the second pic I tied a second knot, then after that cut the end knot off and sealed with a burner. Re assembled and now the paddle is held good and tight. A 5 minute job :)
