For sure not a Hobie kayak. That kayak is styled industrial like an Army Humvee. Seat is mounted on T-tracks. That is a close copy of the Mirage drive though. |

Unless I'm mistaken, the patent on the original Mirage drive expired. So there are a number of kayak manufacturers using the design. Hobie responded by adding reverse and then eventually the kick-up fins. (I sometimes wonder how long they had those "innovations" before releasing them.) On a few occasions, I've see folks that buy those less expensive kayaks and drop in a newer Mirage Drive to get the updated features. (There is robust market for used Mirage drives. Don't leave yours lying around!) |
