Post subject:  What's the oldest Hobie Tandem around?

Hey Everyone,

I recently picked up a Hobie Tandem, I immediately noticed the stainless cogs and retro style fins along with the retro style purple seats but didn't think that much more about it since the hull and drives were in good working condition, very few scratches and no real UV damage except a couple of clips onthe bungee on the back.
I then noticed that the drums are not only V1 but made out of aluminium (which I'd never seen before) so I got curious and looked at the serial number.

Turns out this kayak was made in March 2000 and has hull number #74, I'm beyond impressed with how well this kayak has held up and the condition for something that's 24 years old and been stored outside on top of a boat!

I was intending to use this as my daily runabout into town but I'm starting to wonder if this might be the oldest intact tandem out there at this point :)

They certainly don't make things like they did back then, stainless fittings, bronze, cast aluminium .. no wonder this thing has lasted, just needs a little bit of maintenance and care :D
