I’ve rented kayaks but never owned one. I have a sailing background, and I’m very interested in buying a passport 10.5 for sailing and kayaking recreationally on lakes.
Never having done it, my question is how uncomfortable is it to hike out? All the videos I watch show the sailor leaning awkwardly to one side, or so it appears to me. But it doesn’t seem to be commented on. The sidekick ama kit might be the answer, but I visualize the pontoons grabbing or submerging in the water. Do they work well as outriggers?
I’m going to test ride a passport, but I don’t know how I can test ride the sailing kit. Any input would be welcomed. Thanks

Excellent observation. I will relate what I did and what you can do IN PRINCIPLE, because my experience was/is with very different models.

I also think the frame seat looks very awkward while hiking but easily remedied. I replaced my seat with an inflatable one from SeaEagle which gave wonderful comfort in all modes. The inflated surface is convex so you can comfortably rest leaning side to side. It actually may be too rolley-polley in your case so a better hybrid solution may be a thick inflatable seat pad for over the frame. SeaEagle and others sell such things.

Kayak sailing can be wonderful; there is a topic category here for it, adding boom battens etc.

The ama's "ski" well on the water. What frustrated me was, the wind would change direction sailing mountain lakes. Be dure to get a furling kit too.
