I need to replace one of my Outfitter paddles. What are the tangible differences between part 74075001 and 74076001? Other than maybe the latter is 1cm longer and blue? (I like blue.) Why are there two different paddles? Any reason to pick one over the other?

Hi PL and welcome to the forum. The 6001 looks like the standard paddle (black) accordingly to my parts book. Where did you see the 5001?

There is a 4 piece paddle for the inflatable kayaks but I couldn't find a listing for it. That is the only other current Hobie kayak paddle that I know of. In any event, the 6001 looks like your replacement.

Check with your dealer. If he's in doubt, he can always call Hobie. 8)

Page 27 of the 07/08 Accessories and Parts catalog shows 74076001 and the blades look blue but that may just be a photo lighting anomaly. On page 32 it is listed as "Paddle - Hobie 231 cm". The 06/07 catalog shows 74075001 for the paddle and in various places on the Internet it is described as a 230 cm paddle. Different online retailers have one or the other listed.

So it sounds like the part number has changed, the color hasn't, and I should replace mine with 74076001. Had somebody up front in shallow water who used the paddle as a push pole and pushed way too hard apparently, cracking the blade.
