Outback Rudder Control Lines

I drive an '05 Outback and the last time out my rudder would not stay down...(insert joke here )

Once home, I was able to locate a loose control line which had what appeared to be a loop of surgical rubber tubing on the end. I assume the loop fastens to some fixed object.

Could someone please post a link to information regarding the proper fastening point for the loop?

Just following up to see if anyone has experienced a problem keeping the rudder in the water due to a loose control cable...

Oops, didn't realize you never got an answer to your question. Yes others have the occasional issue with the Twist n Stow rudder system. They work well when adjusted properly, but they don't always come from the factory perfect.

Anyway, you will want to go to the FAQ section. In there, Matt Miller has posted many helpful articles. There are articles on adjusting the rudder as well as replacing the lines (both are up at the top in the first 10 posts). You should be able to look through these articles and see where your loose line goes.

Now I know where that damn broken zip tie that I found inside the hull came from!

I thought I must have dropped it in there by mistake...

Hey Ganiom,
Don’t know if this will help answer your question or not, but here are a couple of pics regarding the rudder control lines on my 2005 Sport. Now this was with the older (original) Hobie rudder system, but it may give you some idea of how things are tied together inside the hull, including the function and connection of the zip tie you found. Great picture. Thanks Apalach. That's exactly the connection I need to make. I may use a heavier zip tie though when I replace the one that broke.

I'm not sure a heavier zip tie will fit through the hole in the control arm.
