Post subject:  Scam Attempt

Just thought I'd pass this along to everyone. I got a scam attempt yesterday from someone that tried to use my TMI that I have listed here and on Craigslist Chicago. The "buyer" tried using the "I want to send you a six digit code" scam to get into my Google stuff. I called them out, they called me a few names, and that was that. DO NOT REPLY TO THAT. They texted me, and the phone number that showed up was 317-602-1185. It's an Indianapolis area code, but it's probably hooked up to a phone in Nigeria. EVERYONE BE CAREFUL!

same here. "there are so many scams on the internet these days. to verify it's you, I will send a 6 digit code" then later, "i just need the code" I'm lucky my buddy was into the post and is a phd computer guy. I called him up and he said it allows them access to your whole google account. Buyers beware. I buy local, and normally have no problems with craigslist, but I've told irs, social security, you name it that I don't trust them and if they want me to call them back refer me to your official site. I'll call YOU don't call ME. peace and stay safe. oh and sellers beware too. I've had a couple of those as well, "fishing"

First to respond that quickly is typically scammers. They say call me or text me on your cell... "my craigslist or facebook market place isn't working" So they then have your phone number... Then they ask you for the code ("they" sent you) to prove YOU are not a scammer. Right?

Don't do it. Read the warning on the text that Google sends you... do not share with ANYONE!!

Use the in-app messaging systems... not your phone. Do not share access codes.

I don't understand how this works. They send you a 6 digit code, you send it back, then that gives them access to your google account. How does sending it back give them access?

1. Scammer goes to google, enters your email, selects forgot my password.
2. Google sends your phone a 6-digit code so you can confirm it is you wanting to reset your password.
3. Scammer says they sent you code but it really came from google "forgot password".
4. Scammer asks you for code to "confirm you aren't a scammer" ha ha.
5. You give scammer the code.
6. They complete password change at google and now have control of your google account and email.
