Really hard to imagine with this Hobie crowd that there is absolutely no data on anyone surfing on the Eclipse, with or without the Mirage drive... Would make great GoPro videos!

I used to even surf my Hobie 16.

Anyone?

(Yes, postd this in the Eclipse forum, turns out no one has taken their eclipse surfing, mine will try it when it's delivered!)

They really don't surf well, which is good for all of the surfers out there so there shouldn't be too many Eclipse in the lineup. You can ride a really mellow wave that isn't breaking, but once you move off the pedals on a steeper wave and let go of the handle bars, you lose all control. The MirageDrive drags and makes you want to spin, and the rudder looses most of its hold once you let go of the handlebar. If you remove the drive and handlebars, you could surf it sort of, but it's a really wide SUP at that point. Doable, but certainly not ideal.

Maybe with some practice, technique, and the right conditions you get some good rides! Just be sure to give it a try away from a crowd.

Just noticed the Eclipse two year warranty does not cover surfing...
