Post subject:  Seal under crossbar came out

I've been meaning to post this for a while. When I disassembled for the winter so I could get the boat up the stairs from the beach and store it for winter I found the source of the leaking into one of my hulls! There are rubber cork like seals under each of the crossbars. One of them had come out and fallen into the hull. I still have it.

I'm wondering how I would go about repairing this. I'm guessing they're there for pressure reasons. I don't know if I should put it in with silicone, or if it needs to be replaced, or what. Does anyone know? Before I put the boat back together I'll be checking all 4. If I recall correctly it looked like there was tape going across the remaining three of these. I'm not sure why that would be.

Any insight is appreciated.

Can you post a photo of what you're talking about. We do cover a vent hole with a spin-weld - and there's some plastic that is left just kinda hanging there inside the hull - that doesn't matter - hard to understand what you're seeing without a photo.

Sure thing. Here's a 3 photo album with the seal or whatever it is that I found inside the hull, the hole it left in the hull, and the intact plug that would be under the other crossbar on the same hull.

Thanks.

That is not how we do it in the US. I am told that in 2014 it would have been a hull made in France. Since you have a perfectly shaped plug... I would rough up the hole and the outer edges of the plug and seat in 3M 5200 or Sikaflex.

huh, so I have a Euro made T2 that I got here in Michigan, crazy. Just to be clear this has nothing to do with being a pressure relief mechanism and I want it to be very firmly glued in place, correct? If so, I'll wait for warmer weather so the glue can cure properly, clean it up/rough it up, and get it back in place. Thanks again.

Not related to pressure. Glue in solid.

That was an early one, hulls came from France. Later boats have US molded hulls, but a lot of the hardware comes from France still. We now do hulls, tramps, sails and the masts here.
