FX1 Wrecked and then fixed. Splashed a mold off of the other hull, cut out damage and built a flange to glue in new part. Re-cored, glued it together, faired it and done. This technique could be used for other types of damage.

That just proves the adage, "If it's fiberglass, it can be fixed."

John Wake use to say... with fiberglass, anything can be fixed, but it will be either time and $ or weight. Your choice.

This a years-later reply to an old post but is exactly the info I am looking for.

I'm trying to find the Hobie Hotline "this old boat" article mentioned by the original poster but have come up short. Can anyone point me to it?

I found the magazine archives here but couldn't find the article.

My situation as an 18" Hobie with hull damage from heavy snow in the Lake Tahoe region putting so much weight on the boat that the trailer rollers on one hull pushed through the hull. Such a bummer because a little winter prep would have made it so avoidable. Not my boat but I'm going to fix it so we can sail this summer.

Of course I found the article after I posted my last comment.

This (different) Hobie Hotline archive includes table of contents for each issue so much easier to find what I was looking for. May-June 2008 has the article on fixing blind holes (where you don't have internal access to the hull).

Glad you found it! I sold the Hobie a little over 5 years ago but the fix was holding strong up til then. Good luck with your repair.
