Marty, I'd be interested in what you come up with. Any chance of getting the factory drawings/files for these things? What would be the issue?

thanks pionex. im waiting to see your results.
is there a possibility you take pictures of your SX wings? maybe measures? the thing is that it is imposible to find decent photo of SX wings. Magnum wings i managed to find, but SX wings, no go. just today i received an email from Austrian Hobie distributor (maletschek co). they have hobie 18 sx wings. new. €2500 - WITHOUT TRAMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!. :o That is roughly $3000.
i could not believe my eyes. i can get 2 complete sets of sails for that money. no way im goin to buy new ones. im building it on my own, even if i have to design it myself.
and again, i will make sure to post ALL MY FINDINGS ON THIS FORUM. videos, pictures, measures. and it is a promise

Hi This is Marty
Both 6160 or 6063 can be bent with out annealing if you have the right bender.
180 deg bends can be bought from SHARPEPROCUCTS.COM for about $30.00 each if you can not bend your own. You can buy 6160 2 inch tubing or 6063 2-3/8 tubing witch is pipe. If any one can give me a drawing of the wings, I have the software to stress analize for both materials. As far as end fittings, I am going to machine them out of billet alu.

Put me down for a set of wings if you build some. Let me know how the building progress goes. I havea person who can custom build the tramps for them if needed
Thanks!!

Just a suggestion : for end fittings or for any kind of "joining" two tubes think about using Ertalon or Ertalene. These are sold as plastic/nylon blocs than can be shaped quite easely in any form : a good alternative to the Zamac fittings.
I wish you succes with the projects !
Michel

I just measured the tube diameters on my Magnum wings for Mike F.

Large diameter tube is: 1.880" in diameter and has a 0.087" wall thickness.
The small diameter tube is: 0.990" in diameter and has a 0.125" wall thickness

Hope this helps those who are thinking about building a set.

If you want me to measure the loose end cap that I have to put back on now drop me a note.

I believe the diameters and wall thickness for the SX wings will be pretty much the same as the magnum wings. Without putting a tape on my SX wings, I'd say that DVL's dimensions sound correct, as I was going to suggest that my SX wings seem to have similar diameter to inch and a half pipe (1.9" OD). The wings were of course built from aluminum mechanical tube, however, not pipe.

Thank You!
My plan is first is to put Anchor Plate Kits on front crossbars for stronger construction. After that - wings..
I have found similar aluminium tubes and will try to make (weld) custom construction like magnum wings.
So...when i start I will put photos here :)

Thank you! :)
I thinking to try to make wings...but..
First i will put Anchor Plate Kits on front crossbars. After that starting - "Project Wings" .
I have found similar aluminum tubes. But i need exact diameter of SX tubes for this part:
Image
So... if my aluminum tubes have diffrent diameter then I am forced to bend and weld wings like Magnum :(
If someone have H18 nearby and measuring tape in hands... I need dimensions (a,b,c) I can not find it on the internet:

Thanks :D
When I start project i will put photos here..

From memory, there is a huge amount of geometry on original wings, it is not as simple as bending some pipe and welding.
There are castings....at least 6 per side, and as I recall, 52 rivets per wing that need securing as part of the assembly.

The key is that the vertical (weight bearing) strut has to be centred on the head of the bolt at the outside of the cross bars.

Thank you John for reply!

Yes I know all about wings.. and parts. :)
I am aware of the complexity of making but.. i was found aluminum tubes and someone who can bend and weld aluminum.
I`m not trying to make original (SX) wings.. but i think aluminum welded wings like Magnum is possible

Magnum wing is welded:

I need only dimensions (a,b,c) of SX wings for corect positioning of bench..

I can send you some images of the SX wings. Your drawing is a little off. PM me your email address.
