Guys,

I bought my H18 "project boat" about a month ago and since then have removed all the hardware, all the lines and started to go through the bags of random stuff the previous owner had stored with the boat. In one of the bags was a metal frame and a strap with a series of hooks on it. What the hell is this?

That is a rear mast support for when you're trailering the boat. The two "slugs" slide into the traveler track of the rear crossbar. Push the slugs into the opening on the starboard side of the traveler track and then slide it to the middle of the track, then you can lay the mast into the cradle and strap it down. It looks like the rubber tubing pieces are missing from the left side though. You will need them otherwise it won't stay in the track.

The metal object is a mast stand. The "feet" rest in the traveler track, the short line goes through the eye of your traveler swivel and cleats (forward) to hold the stand stationary, fore and aft. Lash around the mast to the stand, and around the feet to the rear crossbar.

The bottom item is an old school tie down strap. Wrap the looped end around cross bar or pylon, pull the hooked end through and hook to an eye on the trailer. Tension by adjust length and levering over on the strap. The oblong metal hoop (at the end of the strap) holds the lever in place while tensioned.

I knew I would get a great answer on this forum, thank you to you both.

The mast stand seems like it would be a great feature to have...now that I know what it is though I am pretty sure so rusted out it's going to have to be trashed. No way it would support the mast under the load of uneven road.

As for the tie down strap, it's the only one with the boat and it is also pretty rusty...it's headed for the dump.

Thanks again for the info.
