Post subject:  original Hobie 18?

I finally made the repairs in my Hobie 18 after the Hurricane Ivan. My Hobie 14 (1983) will go back to retirement or maybe off to a new owner. But while making the repairs on my Hobie 18, I got a good look at the serial number and have some questions. I thought it was an mid 80s model, since the rudders are pre-86. Anyways, I think the serial number shows 1975, but I thought H18 began in 1976. Any help in decoding this would be appreciated....heck, this might be one on the first ones made...and still sailing....

here are the numbers, any ideas on year and other info?

CCMH1046M75JS.............I think this makes it a 75, but have no idea what the J or S mean...

I am pretty sure about all the numbers, except the last one could either be a 5 or S. Additionally, I have heard that the 76 models had some problems in the front....but no further details.....if it helps, I can post the sail number, not sure if it is the original or not.

thanks, and appreciate any help in advance.

Based on all the serial # information available...my guess is the last letter is not S but actually 6, the J signifying it was built in October of 1975 as a 1976 model.
