Hello all,

I am looking to purchase a Hobie 18. I have found one that I am interested in and was looking to see if there is any info available. Is there a faq somewhere which has what to look for when purchasing an older 18? I have found the write ups on issues with anchor plates and crossbeams, replacing standing rigging etc, but was looking for a checklist with everything in one place.
Anyway the boat I found is a 1987 model hull number is CCMC1193J687. I havent been able to inspect it yet and was looking for background info. It has magnum wings - would they have been standard on this year model or optional? Looks like original sails (#13387), black rudders, black anodizing, it's color scheme is blue hawaiian ( I know this cause I had a blue hawaiian 16 back in the 80's). That's really all I can tell from the pictures. Owner sez it's a great boat, he is the second owner who bought from a family member.
Anyway all correspondence helps.

Thanks in advance,

Terry

Thats a good list. Thanks!

Can you tell from the hull number whether the boat is an SX or Std 18 with wings added?
Also, is there anywhere on the web that would show Sail and Hull colors for past years?

Thanks,

TE

TE,

The 18SX was introduced in 1989.

For sail color patterns go here: http://www.hobiecat.com/hobieclass/

Then scroll down to the Past Issues and download the March/April 2006 issue of Hotline. A great article of the sails is printed beginning on page 18.
