What would be a fair price for a 1999 Hobie 18 SX with wings. Excellent condition.

That's a tough one because of all the variables, such as:

- supply & demand in your location
- desire/need to sell the boat
- does it have a trailer?
- coming up on the end of the sailing season for most places and buyers' interest is waning
- does it have a spinnaker?

Maybe start around $5700 +/- ?

Also depends where you live. I bought a 2000 H17Sport (excellent condition) in 2002 for $6K in Seattle.

If the hulls are A1, no dings, no delam, no leaks,
and if the wings are A1, no welds, have not been rubbed, & good wing tramps,
and if the rudders/rudder castings/connections are A1,
then look at the sails. Likely, being a 1999, they are original and 'blown'.
They may be serviceable for recreational sailing....you make the call...check for delam of the Mylar. Or, factor in the cost of replacement sails.
The last issue is 'does the deal include a trailer?'.
Trailer should have cradles in front and double rollers in the rear....if not, build bunks from 2 x 4 and carpeting. You need to avoid point loading....
Depending on the above, price could be from a low of $3,500 upwards, and $5,700 could well be a fair price.
If the SX was ocean sailed, what is the state of the standing rigging?
In any every, you should replace the shroud anchor pins....just to be safe.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the information - tremendously helpful. Will aide in the evaluation. Includes a trailer. I am leary of mylar because it can be a pain in the ass. Will see what I find.

Last summer I purchased almost the exact same boat. 1999sx with beach wheels, boat cover, trailer, cat box, extra set of rudders, extra set or standing rigging ect ect. The boat was next to perfect, and sails were in pretty good condition for 12 year old sails.

I paid $3,500

It was the best money I've ever spent!
