A few weeks ago while breaking my boat down after a sail, I noticed my rudder pins were really hard to get out. One was bent for sure, so I replaced them and noticed that it was actually one of the lower castings, twisted about 1/4" out of alignment. Damn !! Got a used one. Last weekend, on a reach in +/- 15 of wind, the lee rudder appeared to pop up. Nope, lower casting snapped clean in half ! Back on the beach, noticed BOTH pins were bent again (SS pins mind you, not the stock aluminum).

After my first casting, I spent some time adjusting the rudders and cams. The helm was really nice, barely noticible weather helm, and rudders locked down nicely.

What the hell is going on ?? I understand that castings can and do break, but my last set of pins lasted years.

Solid SS ... or ... hollow SS ???

I have bent solid SS rudder pins before ... so it does happen .... hollow are stiffer and I haven't bent one ... yet ....
