I was wonder if anyone else has had this issue or if it was just me. The sheave on the bottom of the mast for the main halyard hasn't been spinning correctly when raising or lowering my main. I replaced it 3 or 4 months ago because the halyard had cut into it and created a flat spot so it wouldn't spin. I just noticed lest time I was out that if was doing it again. The sheave spins freely when it's not under any load but something keeps it from spinning long enough to make a flat spot and it gets bad real quick from there.

Is this something that needs to be replaced frequently or is there something wrong that I'm doing? I have a feeling that it's the later...

Are you raising the sail from the tramp or behind the rear x-bar? Looks like you are pulling up as if raising from the tramp. That would load the sheave and make it bind. Could be the pin it rides on is worn and causing the sheave to lay over and bind.

Your're right that I raising my sail from the tramp. I can see how it would be better to instead raise it from behind the rear cross member but the problem is that a lot of the time I am doing it solo. I don't see how I would be able to feed it at the same time from behind the cross member. Although the more I think about it I could temporarily run it through a jib block.

I'll inspect my pin closer but I think it's in good condition. I made a new sheave out of mechanical grade PTFE (Teflon) to see how that would hold up but I think I'll keep my eye open for a SS one.
