Both the daggerboards on my H-18 have begun to split along the bottom edges, about 3 inches on each side. Can anyone suggest a repair method?
Boat is for pleasure, not for racing, so it doesn't have to be too techie a solution.
The boat is a 1980 vintage.

Thanks,

I had the same problem. They were split at the bottom and the surface glass had started to pull away from whatever the core is.

First I thinned some epoxy with alcohol (a trick I learned flying RC planes) and worked it under the skins and used about 5-6 C-clamps to re-laminate the skins to the cores. Then I ground down the glass about 1 inch or so from the edge around the bottom curve (probably about 8 - 10 inches total) and faired it into the surface. Then I got some real thin glass (the random type not the rigid weave) and cut a strip about 8-10x2 and cut gussets in the sides about every 3/4 or so to help it fit the curve laid it into the area with epoxy. A lot if sanding, a layer of gelcoat and some more sanding and they look like new.

Another way is to thicken the epoxy up a bit with filler (glass bead, etc) then fill in the cracks and divots. Marine Tex is too thick. Then sand.
