Hey folks,

A demasted H18 just washed up in front of my house after a nasty storm last night. White hulls with a big "21" on the front. PM me if you have any idea who might own it. Hull and mast made it ok. Main is trashed.

I'm confused, who in his/her right mind would store their cat overnight with the mainsail raised? Or is that the jib we're looking at? In any case, it's very nice of you to try and locate the owner.

I heard the owner was rescued during a nasty storm that came up quickly. He abandoned the boat in the water. Looks like the bolt that held the side shroud broke. Not sure if that happened before or after. Boat is in good shape considering.

That's an '88 Nationals boat. With wings added later.

Don't leave us hanging! How did the boat come to be on the beach?

I don't have the whole story. I was out sailing (and dumping my own boat :D ) when the owner came by to recover it. He's a forum member so I'll let him fill in the blanks.

The batten caps on the luff are a give away for it being the main. It's also attached to the mast. At least the damage is easily repairable and is a valuable lesson to all of us.

Glad you're okay, man. I saw the sail on the mast and thought to myself "Hmmm maybe somebody should be contacting the Coast Guard here?" And speaking of sails, how are you ever going to replace that color pattern? :P Please cut another killer video when you get her back on the water. That "Wrightsville Hobies" video of yours is epic.

It would have been an '89 model year, used for the Nationals in the fall of '88.

The '89 Hobie 18 Nationals boats were SXs. What a debacle that was. Nobody who qualified for the Hobie 18 Nationals had any experience with the SX, since they had just been introduced.
