What causes the forstay's upper roller furling piece to not want to rotate freely? The bottom one is rotates freely, but when the bottom one is rotated, the upper one does not want to rotate. It remains still...and the result is the jib halyard wire and jib halyard line become twisted in the luff. What do I do, please?

Age, dirt, and use.

With the mast down inspect it. Our Hobie dealer told me they develop flat spots after years of use. I had the same problem. We cleaned the joints and dry lubricated them, which improved operation somewhat.

I am very grateful for the access to all the experience and knowledge everyone has. If a boat mfg could figure out a way to get internet access on small beach boat, it would make it easier.

Has anyone figured a way to do that, given equipments aversion to sand and water?
