One of the H18s on my beach has an interesting fore/aft jib block slide adjuster and I believe my boat used to have a similar setup as well. Bare with me, I'll try to post some pictures later. Essentially, there is a line tied to the thimble you lift to slide the jib car fore and aft. This line runs back across the deck and then through a small block that is riveted underneath the rear crossbar, under the rear crossbar to another block, and then gets tied off to the other thimble. Does anybody else have this setup? I'm wondering what the advantages would be. Any thoughts? Thanks guys. The reason I think my boat might have once had a similar setup is I, too, have blocks riveted underneath the rear crossbar, though I never could figure out what they were for (they're too small for a righting line).

Alright fellas, here's one picture is the setup. Does anybody see an advantage of employing this type of "adjuster" over a traditional setup? For the record I do not, but that doesn't mean I'm not curious.....

No good reason to do this set up on an 18. On the 16 you need it because the ability to slide the jib car in and out from the weather side of the boat is critical, especially when it's windy. On the 18, we rarely ever adjust the jib cars. The only time might be if it's really windy we would move it back slightly. Downwind the crew generally hand trims the jib. Remote jib cars on an 18 are just extra complication with no real value. Probably not class legal either.

I think I have an easier answer for the rope attachment.

I believe that the slider was for ever slipping from its set position and use of the rope helped prevent this.
