I have a Hobie 18 with a rear crossbar that has a crack from corrosion. It is located on the bottom next to the starboard hull attachment bolt. I took pictures but I am having a hard time attaching them to this post. Is this a problem I should be concerned about and does anybody have an idea of how I might be able to fix it. I thought I may be able to take it to a welder. Any ideas???

To post a pic, you need to upload the pic to an internet hosting site like photobucket.com. From there, you can link your pics into forum posts. It's not all that straightforward, but it's pretty easy.

To answer your question, even without seeing the crossbar, yes, the crack is a problem. Your best option is to look around for a used, uncracked crossbar and replace the broken one. Also, if you sail in salt water, rinse all aluminum components with fresh water whenever possible to help prevent corrosion. If you can't find a decent used crossbar, you can have the broken one welded as a last resort, but it likely won't be as strong as original.

Yes replace for sure. welding will weaken the crossbar further and create a problem down the line. There should be plenty around as they have outlasted the hulls. :-)
If you can't find one local to you, PM me as I know of a few.
