i get a Hobie 18 "classic". she looks very old and not maintained for a long time. whatever i'll do my very best : she needs me for total refit, i need her to take some fresh air. quite fair.

here's my questions :

The main sail shows "75" number, in a "Hobie-like" style. take once for sure it's the original number. means that it provide from the first production year ? did Hobie put numbers on all sails they sold in 70' ?

The hulls fits no numbers at all. do you know if all the hulls had once ID numbers ?

thank you so much. sorry for my very bad english.

I'm assuming since English is not your first language, you have a boat made by Hobie France in the late 1970s / early 1980s. The Hobie 18 was first made in 1977 / 78.

The sail number has little relation to the boat's age. In the United States, there were no numbers under 100, unless they were for a special event (national or world championship) and then they would have been under 60.

On the European boats, the hull numbers are generally on a plate attached to the rear crossbeam. The plate may have become separated, or the boat may be old enough that the plate wasn't required back then.

Is there some place we can find out what those two digit number were and for what event? I am thinking of one with two digits and a rectangular crest two panels below the number. the crest was divided in two with a sail boat in the bottom half and an upturned "C" with a dot in the middle in the upper half.

Short answer is no . . .

But I'm pretty sure I've seen that "crest" before - I think it was from a Special Olympics held in New England back in the '80s.

A photo would help.

Up turned "C"?

The Special Olympics World Games used Hobie 18s in 1995 at New Haven, CT

This the the Special Olympics logo used today... could look like an upturned "C" with a dot in the middle in some form.

Not sure how long this version has been used.

Matt put a date on it - which enabled me to find it quickly . . .

Thanks. That last post with boat number 26 has the crest I was asking about. Nice to see what it was all about.

Thanks again and happy new year.
