I have a H18 1984 with a galvanized trailer. The boat is spotless. Sails are crisp. No wings. All rigging and tramp replaced four years ago the last time I sailed. Mast, boom and crossbars are anodized black. This is a freshwater boat.

I am considering selling the boat due to health reasons. I am curious as to what the average selling price is? I realize this question is subject to many factors. Just asking for a ballpark value.

Thanks folks!

You can't link to files on your DropBox anymore than you can to files on your local hard drive.

Files must be on a photo sharing site or something like Facebook.

If this is true, $4000-6000 depending on location. Here, in BC Canada it would be closer to 6K.

From what I've seen, this would be an average market. So, I would say $5000 tops. You don't have wings, but your sails are very attractive and look clean. There is a premium for "spotless". Lots depend on how spotless your boats is a how crisp are the sails. More pictures would help.

Also look into http://www.thebeachcats.com/classifieds/g1-catamarans.html for a similar boat.

IMO, I think that would be a very optimistic asking price - roughly what the boat sold for new in 1984. Without seeing the boat in person, I would think somewhere in the $1500-$2500 range based on the boat's age and the fact that it's got original sails (almost 30 years old).

But, as with everything, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it, so figure out what you think a fair price is, add on an additional 10% and go from there.

A nice 18SX with wings and very good sails was on Craig's list in Raleigh about 2 weeks ago for $4500. It didn't last long.

To everyone who offered food for thought, I appreciate the comments

I also own a 2005 Wave and last summer I had trouble sailing it with my limited arm strength. So I doubt I could handle the 18 anymore. I'll wait a little longer until the snow is gone and make a decision then.

This forum has been awesome over the years. A real great bunch of people!

Keep the top side up and enjoy the ride.

Agree. This, taking "spotless" literally, meaning "like-new" condition. There are very few like-new H18 on the market. There is a fellow on http://www.thebeachcats.com/classifieds/g1-catamarans.html who wants $8,750.00 for his 2000 H18 SX. This may be excessive, but me being closer, would be making him an offer in $5000-7000 range.

Beautiful boat, T-Bone, I'm sorry to hear you might be forced to sell her. I remember you saving me a headache a couple of years ago by providing the name of that jib zipper supplier in Florida and I appreciate it (perfect fit and cheap!). Best of luck with your recovery.

I agree with SRM on this one. You have a very nice boat there, but $2,500 is the top of the market.

It is very rare to see boats newer that 1990 on the market. Newer boats go for a premium because of that. When you see 90's or 00's boats that's when you see the $4000-$9000 numbers.

Most pre-1988 boats sell for less than $2000

I would throw it on Craigslist asking $3,000 and take the first $2,500 offer.

Here is a similar boat with wings going for $2,400.

Start with a high number you can always go down. People buy boats all the way through July in this are. We even had a few people join in August last year.

Nice boat T-bone! I wish you would've posted this last year, I bought an 18 (in Buffalo) which I thought was in really good condition, but the more I look at it, the more it needs work. I'm already looking at ~$3,500 by sailing time this year, and the trailer I got with it is crap. Oh well, for a first boat I definitely could've done worse.

I can tell you from my time looking last year, Hobie 18's in this area really do go for between $1000 and $2500. I was searching anywhere between Toledo, OH and Rochester, NY, and I mostly saw boats in that price range. I know one guy in Ohio sold his 18 with wings for $2500 to somebody in Muskegon, MI. Your boat looks to be in the best condition of the ones I've seen, but I think it would still be a hard sell for much more than that. Still, you can always go down in price, you can't really go up.

did you end up listing it? I've been thinking about it I may be interested.

I have not listed it. In next few months it will be determined if I can sail anymore. The recovery process has been a long haul and being off the water is just as painful. If I decide to sell, I'll let you know.
