Can somebody please describe the differences between the H18, SE and SX?

Thanks.

H18= original

H18 Magnum= H18 with short wings (crossbar to crossbar)

H18 SX= H18 with taller mast, longer wings(front crossbar to stern), spinnaker and squartop sail possibilities.

Correction: the SX does not have a squaretop sail unless the sail is aftermarket. A stock SX sail is a Mylar pinhead.

Well explained (with pictures) in the FAQ section:

Thanks for the replies.

The reason I am asking is because I am trying to ID my boat. It was built in 1979, but has the longer wings. The wings are labeled "formula" but they look exactly like the "SX" wings in the FAQ section. Wondering how the long wings ended up on a boat from that vintage.

All Hobie 18 wings may be mounted to any Hobie 18. In your case, a previous owner obtained the wings and bolted them on.

All Hobie 18s (SE, SX, Magnum, Formula) share the same hulls and cross bars. Magnums are SE 18s with wings. SXs are SE 18s with wings, a 1.5 foot taller mast, mylar sail, and an optional spinnaker.
