The air has been light down here in Alabama (when it's not been raining) lately. I took our Lab with me to Lake Martin for a little cruise. Single-handing the boat in light air was easy with the Lab almost asleep on one of the wings. Thunderstorms popping up on a Summer afternoon is common down here-except that they can be on you in a flash. Well-one popped up as I tacked to get back to camp. As I was flying a hull to get back-and trying not to kill myself in the process, the Lab went overboard. With whitecaps on the water, I decided NOT to turn around and test my single-handed righting setup, and instead furl the jib and head into the wind. She is a good swimmer and I got her back on board. I have ordered a flotation vest for her next trip.
