Post subject:  Couldn't find a H18 trailer, so I built one

This is what I ended up with when I got my H18 home for the first time this past January. Image
The frame broke with about a mile to go. After looking for a couple of months for another H18 trailer. I decided to build one myself.
I found this PWC trailer on Craigslist. Image
I added 9ft to the tongue using the old trailer tongue, and some 2x2 steel tubing for the cradle mounts and storage box mounts. [URL=http://s1292.photobucket.com/user/henrycopeland/media/H18%20trailer/IMG_2255_zps8a5882b1.jpg.html]Image

Since the hull bottoms are curved front to back, and my cradles are fixed, a little trick work with a compound miter saw took care of the issue. Image
One end of the 2x8 is raised while cutting. Image
I made a removable rear mast support with some extra tube and angle iron. Image
It's retained by a pin through the frame. Image
I reused the old front mast support after a put a tilt in the V to fit the mast. Image
WallyWorld had some transom ties that work well hooking onto the wing mount bolts.Image
The loaded trailer has about 100lbs on the tongue, and according to the wife, pulls great with her Highlander.

I built my first computer from scratch in 1992. I was on the internet when it was text only. You would think that I could insert some pictures into this forum!

You somehow got extra "img" tags around your pic links.

Thanks hobiesrock! Still one oddball link, but I'm tired of messing with it.

Be careful posting your handiwork, unless you want to get a bunch of orders.

A word of advice .... you added 9' to the tongue (as you put it)..... stiffen up this section with side support to the outer pieces otherwise your trailer will be quite "whippy" due to this length.

Nice work, I like your storage layout and homemade cradles. Do you happen to know if those hull stripes are original to the boat? I haven't seen that pattern before.

From what I could tell, the original Carumba stripes were replaced by a large "Hobie Cat" on each hull. I took the signage off and put the reflective orange/blue on myself. That 3M reflective DID NOT want to curve!

In your trailer-tie-down picture it looks like you are folding your wings against the mast. If so and you trailer any distance you get damage from rubbing, especially the diamond wires cutting into the wings.

Make something like these to hold the wings upright away from the mast.
