A long time ago, I was told: If you race, replace every year. If you sail in salt water, replace every 2 to 3 years. For everyone else, replace every 3 - 5 years, or more often if you want, and CHECK the standing rigging at the beginning, middle and end of season. The problem with the shroud anchor pins is that they usually break/deform at a place where the damage is not visible. That's why I was given a suggested replacement schedule. Good pictures, and glad no one was hurt. |

Along these lines... I've been told to disassemble and inspect hardware at the end of the season. I thought that was a bit excesive, but ended up needing to dismantle the boat for other reasons and found some corrosion. It doesn't take much to disassemble and inspect between race seasons or when you're boat will be snowed in. |
