Post subject:  Down main sail (Fast way?)

Saludos

English translation of the question: (edited from Altavista Babel Fish)

Hello, I have a HB18SX, .and the maneuver to lower the main sail is difficult while ashore and perfectly pointed into the wind. I think that in case of weather or storm it would be almost impossible to lower the sail from the water. I can not see trying to loosen the steel hoop in waves and strong winds. Is there some special technique for this? Has anybody that a similar situation?
Thanks.

Be sure that the metal ring user to latch the sail to the latching mechanism at the top of the mast is attached with a twist shackle. Otherwise it will be difficult to un-latch.

(from the assembly manual with comments) To lower the main, untie the downhaul and slide the leading edge of the sail up the sailtrack a few inches. Next pull hard on the main halyard and the metal ring and the top of the sail will overrun the halyard hook, rotate the mast to the starboard (counter clockwise) than release the halyard. (If you can position the boat with the wind pushing the sail a little to port this may help to release the medal ring from the hook. Also if there is any twist in your halyard; pre-twist it so that the ring tends to twist away from the hook (to the port) when the mast is rotated to starboard. The sail should fall free of the hook.

I have not done this with the boat in the water, but it helps ashore. I do not know if this is any different with a new comp tip mast.

If you pull the rotation arm toward the hook while pulling the halyard it will release and fall. By using this technique there is no way the sail can reattach. So again, boat head to wind. push or pull rotation arm toward hook side and pull halyard.

Lubrique encima de la cuerda del perno con el aerosol del silicón. Utilícelo liberalmente, a veces ese las ayudas.
