I need to replace the main traveler on a 1979 Hobie 18. Any tips?

Take the old one out, slide the new one in? You probably just need to replace the slugs right? It all comes apart so you can just buy the slugs or sheaves for the main sheet and replace them.

The opening for the traveler car is at the end of the crossbar, starboard side. It just pops out. You may need to give the car a gentle tap with a hammer or pop it with your hand to get the slugs out of the opening. The new (or rebuilt) one just pops back in. Nothing to it.

If you really have trouble getting the traveler out of the track, you can remove the cotter pin and the car will separate from the slugs. Then you can remove the slugs individually.
