Last time I check there were only nine boats registered for this event. I know for a fact that the Hobie 18 was selected and approved by HCA and US Sailing as the non-spinnaker two up boat foe this year. And that was done some time ago so it should not be a surprise. If we don't get more boats the 18 will never be selected again. BTW no California boats registered and most of the boats going are from the North West. What gives??? I heard grumbling about "politics" and the date being "close" to Mexico. Duh, one is in August and the other is in October...here is a chance to do the Alter Cup on a boat you may own. SO now I'm expected to also come to Mexico??? Hmmm, have to think on that...

I know there will be more Hobie 18's at the event than are pre-registered. We are coming from Texas. Unfortunately, there is no incentive in pre-registering. In fact when I started to pre-register, it was clearly stated that the entry was non-refundable. Sailing is expensive enough without losing entry money in the event an illness or other problem pops up. Perhaps in the future, noting that 80 -90% of the money would be refunded if you had to back out would be a good way to advertise an event. Looking forward to coming to Carlyle. It is one of the best venues in the country.

Good point, note to organizers. After putting on many regattas myself and my wife, there is a point where the money is spent and cannot be refunded. Food, shirts and other items that have a scale issue to them are water under the bridge. You can't return t-shirts that have been printed. Looking forward to Carlyle myself..

US Sailing is the Organizing Authority for this one (not the HCANA) and they controlled the language in the NOR.

They had to put in their shirt order a few days ago. If you haven't registered by now, you may not get shirts. Priority will go to the teams that registered early.

In case you didn't know . . .

tiger850 was Jerry Valeske.

I say "was" because Jerry died of a heart attack shortly after rounding "A" mark at the Lake Quinault regatta on Saturday, August 6.

A big guy with a bigger heart whose mission in life over the past few years was promoting Hobie racing and the Hobie Way of Life. He will be sorely missed.

You guys want to honor Jerry? Sign up for the Alter Cup and bring your Hobie 18s - https://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt ... a_id=11833
