I think Hobie uses silicone to bed everything, but why not something like butyl tape for rebedding instead. The silicone is almost impossible to remove and won't let a new application adhere properly if it's not cleaned off.

The reason I ask is I have some mouse chewed drain plugs that need replacing, and I was planning on swapping the old pull out ports with threaded ones. I know butyl isn't recommended for below the waterline and for that matter neither is silicone.

If not butyl, surely there is something better than the insidious silicone. It's not like the boat sits in the water for days at a time.

Thanks,
Jason

I like 3M's marine sealant/adhesive series. 4000 or 5200, perhaps? I'm not a fan of the silicone either, I don't think it holds up well.

Also, it might be easier for others to follow and make suggestions if you create a single thread for your Hobie repair project, and list off all your questions there

GOOP. Very tenacious stuff, but possible to remove cleaning with some elbow grease. If you can't find the "Sailing GOOP" just use regular old "GOOP." It's all the same stuff...
