Not sure that G-flex would be the best material to use for this application. Hobie (Matt Miller) has mentioned using Bondo before because it sets up very hard. You want to eliminate flex between the comptip and the lower aluminum section. Personally, I would not use Bondo because it is too hard to control the pot life IMO, and could easily kick off before finishing the install. I would just use a high quality medium cure speed epoxy thickened with cabosil or similar.

As for doing a dry run, absolutely do this as you really only get one shot at getting this right. Have everything ready to go. Also make sure the mast is properly supported so that the comptip is straight, and even with the rivet caps, I would still apply silicone caulk to the rivets and back side of the mast tang.

Got the comptip back into the mast. Epoxy is cured and I’m heading to tool store today to rivet it all back together. Hoping to be out on Folsom tomorrow for Fathers day
