No h16 booms have a fitting that goes in the mast track. h18 just has a post with a hole in the end that you pin to the mast fitting

Just to clarify, there is a hinge fitting that goes between the "post" on the boom and the mast fitting (shown on page 15 of the assembly manual). If you were to pin the post on the boom directly to the mast fitting, you would almost certainly break the gooseneck.

Congrats on the H18!

If you have a local dealer, they may have a vertex in stock... otherwise Murray's has them in stock and upgrade form:

The gooseneck pin is readily available from any Hobie dealer. To replace it, you'll need to drill out the rivets in the end of the boom, remove the cap, install the new gooseneck, and then re-rivet the end cap to the boom. http://www.backyardboats.com/mm5/mercha ... e=10772010

The gooseneck yoke http://www.backyardboats.com/mm5/mercha ... e=60710000 and the vertex http://www.backyardboats.com/mm5/mercha ... e=50772031 are both also readily available, if you need them.
