Post subject:  Daggerboards?

Hey,
I visited the forum a while ago and got great feedback on buying a Hobie 18. Unfortunately the boats I was looking at just wasn't worth buying. Now I found a new one that I haven't seen "live" yet, but I have a question about what kind of daggerboards it has. It dosent look like the elipse shaped ones I know.

Thanks

Definitely not stock. Looks like they custom fit a pair of higher aspect dagger boards from another cat. If it was done properly, it should be ok. But I would look closely at how they went about modifying the trunks to accept the different boards.

Thanks,
I was afraid it was something "one off", couldn't find any originals that looked like that.

Hey
I just went to see the boat, very fine condition so I have decided to become a Hobie 18 owner.
FYI it is stock daggerboards on Hobie 18 Formula Hulls.

Must be a European version of the 18. They have had some different configurations than we have in the US - not something that was ever available here. I bet it goes upwind nicely with those higher aspect boards.

It looks to me like a stock Hobie 18 with aftermarket the dagger boards. The formula 18 was only produced for about 3 years in the late 80s. It was basically an SX without wings or Spinnaker. It had the taller mast and mylar sails. They were provided for the 1989 North Americans in Erie Pennsylvania. I had one come through my hands a few years ago and reduced the mast to make it class legal for stock 18 racing.
