Just purchased a Hobie 18SX wing strengthening kit. Sold as a discontinued original Hobie accessory that adds a third solid aluminum rod to attach to the center of the wing down to the deck. It is missing original instructions. Looking for copy of instructions or photos if anyone have this accessory mounted to their 18SX.

I was told it was only made available for a short time by Hobie.

Matt, any chance Hobie has info/instructions on file for this accessory?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have nothing on that kit anymore.

Should have 4 flat aluminum plates that get inserted on the wing legs? A small strut that connects the aft legs to the rail aft of the legs? 12" round stock? 4 half-moon-shaped stainless brackets?

Isn’t it included on sheets 5&6 of this instruction?

Yes, the strut! Thanks! Not the plate install.

The kit has 4 long flat plates to fit into tubes, 2 aluminum rods, 4 angled and tapped bracelets, 4 smaller brackets for I believe the aluminum rods, and a drill bit. But no packaging or instructions.

Other than the instructions above, the plates would require the removal of the end casting. Removal of wood (if in there) and hammering in the plates to a depth that allows the casting to be re-installed. It would be perpendicular to the boat deck / making an "I" beam structure to strengthen the leg and span the small strut.

Matt,
One last question on this one. Do I use stainless steel or aluminum rivets were needed?

Thank you everyone for your help with this issue.
I may shout out again with this when we get to the install but hopefully it is as simple as it sounds.

Bought this 2000 H18SX 4 years ago for my son and I to have a project together while he was going through chemo for lymphoma as a 19 year old who got blindsided by cancer. A Hobie Cat can be quite therapeutic for both patient and parent when life takes an unexpected bumpy detour.

Always use Monel or S/S rivets.

PM me if you want pictures.

I miss my SX18......

keep safe

Havent been out to the forum for a long time. Not sure if you have already completed installing the kit but if not send me a PM as i may have the instructions somewhere in the basement as i saved just about all the info from my two 18s purchased new
The 89' boat had the kit installed in 91 by strictly sail in Cincinnati amd i think i saved the instructions.
