What is the best way to wind the jib furler?

The best way to wind the furler drum.

Rig the jib without the jib blocks attached. Pull the furler line until it is pulled all the way out (unless there is no line on the drum, the jib will partially furl). Then wrap the remainder of the unfurled jib around the forestay by hand until it is completly furled. Then pull the clew of the jib to unfurl it, this will fully load the drum.
