The rivets that fasten the mast step casting to the forward crossbar are slightly loose allowing the casting to wiggle. Should I replace the rivets and if so what size are they?

8010131 - 6-6 Panhead Monel.

There'd have to be a lot of play before I jacked with it. Mast step repair and/or replacement is a PITA.

what do you consider a "lot of play"? I only notice it on mine down wind in a very light breeze when things are "flopping" about.

A "lot of play" is subjective. If I thought the movement was enough to cause the dolphin striker to elongate the hole in the front crossbar, I'd fix it. But that probably wouldn't happen till the rivets failed.... Probably.
