I asked yesterday about 8 foot eclipse. I was wrong. I did, in fact, purchase a 10.5 version. I do still have a question if this size is sufficient. Is there that much difference between sizes in regards to performance?

Well, to a point. Smaller is better for many reasons. Easier to carry. Easier to load on a car. Maneuvers better... sharper turns.

Larger 12 foot, would have more capacity. Longer hulls are typically faster, but using the Hobie MirageDrive, it seems, is an equalizer. You can easily pedal at fast speeds and with heavy loads. I like to say the MirageDrive can push a brick... they have tons of torque, so can even tow. There are lots of reports of people using a Mirage product to tow power boaters back to the dock.

Thanks for your response. This size should fit nicely in the back of my truck. I'm not planning on any racing, hauling much cargo, or pulling a skier behind me. I'm just happy that my own weight shouldn't sink it. I'm anxious to get it out on the water.

So, if my wife is 135 lbs. and I am 170 lbs., should we get two 10-footers or one of each (a 10-footer for her and a 12-footer for me)?
Also, when will they be available at dealers in Southern California?
Thanks much! :)

Arriving at dealers now. They are selling as fast as they get them.

10.5 for her for sure. You would also be comfortable on a 10.5 at 170 lbs. I am 220 and can ride it. The 12 is far more stable though. You gotta try it to be sure.

So I'm 5'9.5 and 200lbs should I get a 10 or 12 foot?

If it were me, I would get the 12.
