Just got two used Hobie pedal boards, and having an issue with the steering cable. One cable pulled out of the handle. I fed it back in thanks to a youtube video that showed me how to do it using the inner part of a pen to get the cable through the final bit. Put it in the set screw, but the screw doesn't tighten and the cable pulls out. Either I'm doing something wrong or the set screw has stripped whatever it screws into. Any advice? Is it just plastic that the set screw threads into? I don't want to replace the whole assembly, which seems crazy.

That's what I was thinking but didn't know/can't see what it screws into to compress the steering cable. Any idea how it sits to hold the cable?

Thanks but the video doesn’t answer my question. I’ve gotten that part down having done it a bunch of times - but the screw doesn’t tighten well. Does it just screw into the plastic? Or is there a nut inside? I could try a bigger screw but I don’t want to screw it up or mess up the hole to the point where I have to replace the whole thing.

Into plastic, I believe.
