The short straps were a known issue. Hobie has changed the design and your dealer was supposed to have switched them for straps that were the right size. I would contact your dealer.

I found the new longer straps to still come up just a couple inches short for my comfort.

I read somewhere recently that the Compass has thinner hull thickness than other hobie kayaks to save on weight. Is this true? The hull feels just as solid as my old outback and PA and I love the reduced weight of the compass. I figured the reduced weight was from the simpler hull design and lack of bells and whistles. Just curious.

Just received my Compass a few days ago. Anyone have any idea what the two lone screws in the cockpit just forward of the drive hole on the starboard side are? They don't appear to have anything attached to them but I'm sure (knowing Hobie) they have a purpose? Thanks

It holds a small plastic pulley that your rudder release line runs up to, then wraps around on it’s way back to the rudder.
