I have a Malone J rack system with the Malone lift assist bars. I have a problem lifting the kayak high enough to set it in the cradles. There is no good way to hold the yak while lifting it. Suggestions?

I think you need to add handle(s). https://www.westmarine.com/buy/west-marine--stainless-steel-handrails--P012868733?recordNum=10
Something like that would work mounted to horizontal surfaces like deck, top of gunwale, vertical surface between deck and gunwale, or angled outboard surface just below gunwale.
Or could use one of the ubiquitous nylon rubber covered handles but that provides a place for hooks to catch if you fish.
Just make sure it's around the balance point of the kayak.
