I have called a few local dealers and they don't seem to carry a Compass with the 180 drive. I'd prefer to spend a bit more and get the reverse. I don't even seem to be able to find it online in that configuration. Any help appreciated!

The boat is only offered with a GT Drive. Dealers can buy an MD180 with square cranks (we don't sell the ARC drives) from our parts department and return the GT for credit. Cost difference plus freight.

Thank you for the response, but could you please explain what is an "GT drive" vs "MD180 with square crank" vs. "ARC drive"? I think you are suggesting there are three different drives available, but I think I've only heard reference to two. Where can I learn about these?

Also, if I purchase one with the standard drive, can I simply buy one of the others as a replacement drive? If so, what is the cost?

Agree with what Matt said. My dealer let me upgrade to the MD180 when I purchased my Compass for $220 more. Well worth it to me. That was back when the Compass first came out. You won't find it advertised in a lot of places. Just ask the dealer as it's a dealer decision.

I see that the Compass Camo comes with the 180 at a price that is $350 more than the non-Camo. Is there any other difference between upgrading a regular compass to the 180, compared to the Compass Camo, other than the color? Better fin blades? Different features? Thanks!

We have a variety of drives now.

GT is Glide Tech and signified a change to roller bearings in the moving parts. These were pre 180.

The MD180 comes in two varieties. The one we sell in the parts department has square pedal cranks that are the same as the GT. The new boats come with ARC cranks. These are an oval shape and have a slight bend ("ARC") forward and the pedal position button is at the top of the crank. It's a bit cleaner look and function for pedal positions adjustments.

Because my posts all have to be "approved" before appearing, they may be showing up out of order, but these are my remaining questions:

1. Does the Compass Camo have the same drive that I would have if the dealer traded a non-Camo's drive for an MD180 (which I understand to be the "square pedal drive", not ARC drive) from Hobie?
2. Is there any other difference (apart from color) in the Camo model compared to a non-camo model? Same fin blades, etc?

Thank you!

The Camo would come with the ARC type and have camo pedal pads.

Mark, I picked up a new camo compass last weekend. The drive that came with it appears to be somewhat of a hybrid. It is an MD180 with turbo fins, but not the ARC pedals...it has the older style adjustment.

I was still confused by the drive issues, and I wanted to get the latest 180 with the ARC, so I just bought the Outback to be sure. I added the stand-up H-frame, and may see a couple more things I want when I get there. I pick it up tomorrow ...
