kinda an incomplete thought there ... if you are asking about "are there any side or top handles which can be added to a compass to assist in carrying and cartopping", I am also curious. My local Hobie dealer basically said there are not a lot of options due to the weaknesses on the Compass body to safely hold the weight of the kayak ...

What are the reports from anyone that has added handles ... any failures?

Nothing has to do with weakness of the hull. The Compass was designed as a basic kayak. Before the Passport was the price leader.

Handle placement has to do with removing other rail features... Designers opted for paddle holder, steering and tracks along the rails.

To get handles in the mix, they have to be inboard. They are used to roll the boat over, but not to hold and balance over your head. You would transition to the rails and scoot hands fore or aft for balance.

Compass handles are bolt on:

Installed H-rail on the outer side of cockpit

I'm also using H-Rails to lift my Compass. I centered the H-Rails directly over the molded-in carry handles so that the kayak is balanced when lifting. I was worried that the H-Rails on the port side would interfere with my steering hand, but it doesn't.

I used same handles on my 2019 Compass and use the wall fasteners to secure inside of hull. Been rock solid..... easy install.
