I have a complete H-16, the tops of the hulls riddled with soft spots, and I just bought a cat thats in better condition, no one seems to want the boat. I live in southern CA and am looking to get rid of it... Are there like boat junkyards like there are car junkyards? Im moving and I have to get rid of it... Anyone have any input??? Donation Places wont take it... |

Donate it to the local club. They could part it out and use the $$ to make some improvements around the place. Just an idea. Jim |

Alot of times you can find a charitable organization that you can donate it to. They will either fix it up or sell it for parts, and you can write it off as a tax deduction. When I had my 14, a guy gave me a mast and boom (mine were bent and corroded) with the stipulation that I get rid of the rest of the boat, which was junk. I had a really hard time finding anyone who wanted soft hulls. I ended up borrowing a huge circular saw from the fire department where I work and cutting it up into manageable peices I could take to the dump. |

I have been sailing Hobie 16s out of the UCLA Marine Aquatic Center and they often take donated boats for part-outs to upgrade their Hobies. I'm not sure about their present status, but you could always try them. Their phone number is 310-823.0048, ask for Steve Orosz |

Thanks guys, I figure if no one will take it I have a chainsaw, and I will just take it to the dump in peices, will the dump take fiberglass? Or is that considered a hazardous waste product? |

Post subject: | Cut it up? |
Cut it up? I used a radial saw. Cut just below the lip the length of the deck. This seperated the deck from the hull. Then I cut along the keel. I ended up with three pieces. The two side panels were then flat. I was then able to cut into managable lengths. This is instead of cutting around the hulls and ending up with a bunch of bulky triangle shaped rings. |

Does the mast have a comptip installed? What are you going to do with it? Todd |
