Daughter and Dads day out on the water

Took my daughter sailing for a few hours the other day. The wind whipped up pretty good and we got up to 18mph(per GPS). It was so rewarding to see my teenager get wide eyed and excited. I may have scored some "cool" points, which as you may know, is not easy with a fourteen year old. Her comment afterwards was "Now I see why you like sailing so much!". What an magical day.

That is so great. I took my 20 year old daughter out for the 1st time this summer in 10-15 knots on my new to me 16 . Had trouble with the jib and sailed all afternoon without one. Tacking was out of the question. We learned how to jibe real well. Anyway we had some really great screaming runs across the lake. When the spray started flying, the rudders started humming and the boat felt like it was going to take off the look on that girls face was priceless. We both got soaked thru and thru. It as a Great Afternoon!!!!!!!!! Since then my daughter has become a pretty good little crew member and boat rigger.

This was a special weekend for my almost 19 year old daughter as well. She has had several hours of tiller time and several hours as crew manning the jib, but this weekend, she took the H16 out by her self with one of her friends. She says she even got to fly a hull which I wish I had seen, but I was busy on my new boat. If somebody got photos, I will post them soon.

how do you folks keep the salt and water spray off your cameras? these just point n shoots? I'd hate to trash my video camera or even my point n shoot. I have brought the point n shoot on calm days - but would fear loosing it in a capsize on a exciting day.

I have an Olympus SW 790 thats 2 years old. its a point n shoot waterproof to 10 feet freezeproof dropproof to 5 feet. i take it snowboarding, drop it in pitchers of beer, go sailing, snorkeling, sledding. I finally broke it in the dominican this year after repeated bashing into the sand, surf, and some 30 foot throws. And 4 months after the water broke through those little rubber seals and fried the thing it nows miraculously works. Wow. I have a lot of friends that bought this cam too and love it. Easy to use and durable. They call them Olympus Tough now and I think there is a 6000 model and 8000 model. The 6000 has same specks mine did but 10 megapixels . The 8000 is waterproof to 33 feet crushproof to 220lbs and 12 megapixels. blair (tallguy1) posted a vid from youtube on here the other day using the tough 6000. you cant go wrong, I would never buy a normal cam again

I have an Oregon Scientific that I bought of Craigslist for $45. It is a helmet cam that has survived a full snowboarding season (35 days), at least 20 days Waveskiing (salt water) and 8 times sailing. It is a very inexpensive digital video camera that works great except for....Sound is not great and there is no video screen or view lens for aiming, which expains how my videos are not aimed very good. For the money it is a great camera and have never worried about salt water or sand messing with the camera.

No, they are just too far back. and the jib is set wrong.... It is their first time solo after all. The boat was practically bone dry after being at the lake for almost 3 days

Just bought a new canon sd780IS point and shoot and noticed they make a water case for that too... it's a shame that the cases are nearly as much as the cameras.

I think I'll be using my old canon elph s110 until it dies before I buy the waterproof case for my new cam.

However, canon does offer a 12 megapixel camera that can go underwater (33 feet) without a special case. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contr ... elid=18332
